10 apps for family travel
10 apps I personally use to plan and enjoy my travels with the family. These apps cover a range of travel needs, from planning and booking to staying organised and making the most of our family adventures. Incorporating them into your travel routine can enhance your overall travel experience. Let’s get to it.
1.Skyscanner
Skyscanner is THE tool I use to dream. I like to randomly search for flight prices to anywhere in the world. Skyscanner is a powerful flight search engine that helps you find the best deals on airfare. It's perfect for comparing prices and securing affordable travel options for your family.
2.Airbnb
Airbnb is a popular platform for booking unique accommodations around the world. Whether you're looking for a cozy apartment or a spacious vacation home, Airbnb offers a wide range of options suitable for family travel. I know. Airbnb is not all good. But I like to search on it anyway, looking for beautiful places to visit. Even without booking through it (because it is often better to book direct), it is a great tool for ideas.

3.Park 4 Night
Park4Night is a must-have app for road trips and camping adventures. It provides a community-driven database of parking spots and camping sites, making it easier to find safe and scenic places to park your RV or camper. We have had great luck with this app. People leave reviews and images allowing you to scope the best stop on your travels.
4.Tripit
Tripit is a comprehensive travel organiser that centralises your travel plans, including flights, hotels, car rentals, and activities, into one easy-to-access itinerary. It keeps you organised and informed throughout your journey. I have been using this app for years. When we travel and have different accommodations, several flights and confirmatiosn all over the place, I like to keep it all organised in this app. I especially love the fact that it reads my emails automatically and uploads the information needed.
5.Stippl
Stippl is an innovative travel app that enhances your travel photos with interactive elements. Create and share visual stories of your family adventures by adding captions, maps, and hidden surprises to your photos. This is like a fun digital photo album we share within the family.
6.Find Penguins
Find Penguins is a social platform for travel enthusiasts. It allows you to document your family's travel experiences by creating a digital travel journal, sharing your adventures, and connecting with other travelers. Similarly to Stippl, it allows you to share with others your travels. But this platform is more about photos than maps and itineraries.
7.TravelSpend
I was going to recommend TrailWallet because this is what I personally use but apprently it has been discontinued. I searched for another equivalent and found TravelSpend. TravelSpend is a travel expense tracker designed with families in mind. This app simplifies the often daunting task of managing expenses during family trips. With TravelSpend, you can effortlessly record and categorise your spending, ensuring that your family stays within budget while exploring new destinations. Its user-friendly interface allows you to track expenses for accommodations, dining, activities, and more, all in one place. I love to keep track of budgets so this fits the bill perfectly.
8.Waze
Do I really need to explain? Waze is a real-time navigation app that offers crowd-sourced traffic and road information. It's perfect for getting accurate and up-to-date directions, avoiding traffic jams, and finding the fastest routes. We love driving so this is the app we always use if we have phone service. Please note though that if you don’t have phone service or want to avoid roaming charges, Google Maps works better as it allows you to download the areas you will need for your trip and use the navigation without network later on.
9.Uber (Eats)
Uber is a ride-sharing app that makes it easy to get around in unfamiliar cities. Perfect for avoiding getting ripped off by a taxi driver when you don’t speak the lingo. You can also request children’s car seats. Additionally, Uber Eats allows you to order food from local restaurants, ensuring your family enjoys delicious meals even when you're away from home. We use this a lot (especially on arrival or after long days out). Order from any local restaurant without having to get out, perfect for independent travel for families. Pizza on the hotel floor? Yes!
10.Fizzer
Fizzer is a personalized postcard app that allows you to create and send custom postcards to your loved ones while on a holiday. Do you remember old postcards? You have to run around to find stamps, then look for postboxes… Great fun when you don’t know a country! Well, this app (and the others like it) allow you to send postcards (real paper postcards) but from your phone. So you upload your own photo, add your text and they do the printing and shipping for you. We love it!
